IFS Therapy

Internal Family Systems is a transformative approach to therapy involving the discovery of Self and parts.

The principle behind IFS is that we are all born with multiple parts or subpersonalities inside of us. As we develop, some of our parts will accumulate burdens in the form of painful emotions and beliefs; and other parts of us will take on various roles and strategies that aim to protect us from all our pain.

IFS therapy helps you get to know and talk to these different parts - to heal some of them and help others transform in some way. It’s a truly life-changing therapy that fosters inner harmony, healing, and lasting change.

We have three categories of parts:

Managers

Managers are the proactive protectors of our system the parts most often in control in our everyday lives. They do whatever they can to keep us in control and our exiles hidden away.

Examples: Organiser, people-pleaser, critic, etc.

Firefighters

Firefighters are the highly reactive protectors of our system. They like to soothe or distract us in the fastest way possible.

Examples: Fogginess, extreme fatigue, compulsive computer game playing or any addictive behaviour, suicidal thoughts, etc.

Exiles

Exiles hold our painful emotions beliefs and memories.
